Wingspan 30 to 35 mm. Although bright bluish-green when freshly emerged, this species fades quickly and becomes rather greyish.

It occurs in open country such as heathland, moorland and commons.

The adults fly in June and July.

The adults feed on gorse and broom.

Fairly frequent from southern Scotland southwards. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as common.

Not common, and extremely local in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = B (scarce resident or restricted distribution or regular migrant).
