Wing length 6.5mm. Elongate and dark-coloured. The thorax has a pair of brown stripes along the lines of the dorsocentral bristles. Femora and tibia are dark but have yellow tips.

The fly breeds on water lilies where the larvae produce long mines, often visible from distance.
