The cap is conical, becoming bell shaped and with small narrow umbo. The gills are white, stained saffron-yellow.  The stipe is orange, darker below, bleeding copious yellow-orange juice when broken.

Saprobic, in deciduous woodlands; particularly with Beech trees.

June to November in Britain.

Widespread, but occasional in England.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
