A bushy shrub or small tree which grows frequently where the parent species occur. It has large, fairly broad leaves and quite large yellowish buds.

Hedgerows, waste places streamsides and damp places. It has also been introduced in osier-beds and plantations.

Flowering March-April.

Deciduous.

Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
