Wingspan 24 to 27 mm.  A relatively small member of the Geometridae.

Unless identified by a recognised expert, a photo is required and the specimen should be retained until species identification is confirmed. 

Inhabits damp areas such as fens, bogs and damp meadows.

Flies from dusk into the night during June to August.

The larvae feed on Meadowsweet and Valerian.

It occurs locally over much of England, Wales and Ireland, but is much scarcer further north and rare in Scotland. In a recent survey to determine the status of all macro moths in Britain this species was classified as local.

Rare and possibly declining in Leicestershire and Rutland.
