Wing length 6-8mm. Ilisia species have a distinctive spotted wing pattern. The two UK species are separated by I. maculata having markings with pale centres whereas those of I. occoecata are more solid. Also I. maculata has three large fairly evenly spaced markings along the leading edge whilst the basal one in I. occoecata is smaller and more distant.

Widespread across England and Wales but rarely found in large numbers. Fewer records from Scotland and Ireland.

Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
