A tall biennial with a rosette of long, silver-grey hairy leaves at the base, alternating part-way up the stem and decreasing in length. Produces large, branched panicles to 2m in height, with yellow flowers.

Similar to a number of other Mullein species.

Hungarian Mullein has all anthers with long white hairs. The stigma is capitate (ending in a distinct compact head). The anthers are all kidney-shaped and placed transversely.

Waste places and disturbed ground.

Just a scattering of records of this species growing in the wild mainly from the southern half of Britain.

Rarely recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.  It was first recorded in Leicester in 1997 - the Croft record in 2021 is only the third record for VC55.
