Wingspan about 14 mm.

Frequents deciduous woodland. 

The moth flies in May and June in the evening and later into the night.

The larvae feed on Oak and Beech, and the adult moth can sometimes be found resting on the upper surface of a leaf during the day.

This species is more common in the southern half of Britain, becoming less frequent further north. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

Locally frequent in suitable habitats in Leicestershire and Rutland.
