Rhagoletis alternata is a species of fruit fly with well marked banding on the wings. This genus contains a number of similar species and care must be taken over identification.

Around rose hips.
Late summer.
Larvae feed inside rose hips.
Not well recorded, but seems to be widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.
Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
