Length 7 to 10 mm. Members of this family have just 2 spurs on the hind tibia and very long antennae, especially in the males.  It is a plain but variable caddisfly  colour may range through various shades of brown to almost black.

Ponds, lakes and slow rivers.

May to September.

Larvae found in ponds etc.

Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.

Occasional but possibly under recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
