Length: 5 to 9 mm. Similar to many other muscid species, so detailed examination is needed. See ID Guidance below. Myospila is in the Mydaeinae sub-family.

• A narrowing of the discal cell as it reaches the wing margin
• 2+2 sternopleurals
• Black legs
• Spots on abdominal tergites
• Plumose arista

Summer

Breeds in dung and in rotting vegetation.

Fairly common and widespread in Britain.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known (probably common but under-recorded)
