Endothenia ericetana inhabits meadows and fields and also occurs in farmland.

It flies in July and August.  It is a retiring species is difficult to find in the daytime but can be attracted to light after dark.

The larvae feed in the stems and rootstock of woundwort (Stachys) and Corn-mint (Mentha arvensis).

Distributed throughout much of the British Isles, but local. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as local.

Rarely recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.
