Wingspan 15 to 20 mm.

Woodlands, dunes and moors.

The moths emerge between May and July, occasionally later, and can be disturbed from the foliage, or attracted to light at night.

It is a polyphagous species and the larvae are known to feed on a wide range of trees and plants.

The species is distributed widely throughout the British Isles and is fairly frequent in many areas. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

Fairly frequent but not common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = B (scarce resident or restricted distribution or regular migrant).
