Wingspan 9 to 13 mm.

Woodland containing Birch.

In June from dusk onwards.

The larvae feed in the catkins of the foodplant, Birch.

A fairly common and widely distributed species in England, Wales and Scotland. In Ireland it is somewhat scarcer. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = C (very scarce resident or rare migrant).
