A small (3 mm) pale yellowy insect with well marked wings.

Chilenocaecilius ornatipennis, an introduced species originally from South America, is similar but has cloudy wings and a dark stripe through the eyes. 

Mainly on branches of deciduous trees and bushes though occasionally on conifers or evergreen branches.

June to October.

Overwinters in leaf litter.

Widespread and fairly common in Britain.

Common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
