It is 3 to 4 mm in length with long upright hairs on the elytra which are studded with rows of holes. The pronotum is also pitted. Colour varies from a yellowy brown to almost black.

Unless identified by a recognised expert, photographic evidence is required and the specimen should be examined with a microscope. In the comments box, state the key or ID method used. Various habitats, often on the ground in moss or on low vegetation, but has also been found under bark.

Best in May and June.

Larvae are associated with the plant Black Medick.

Locally common in Britain.

Fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
