Wingspan 11 to 12 mm. This is a small, all-white species.

It occurs in grassy habitats, flower meadows etc.

The adults are on the wing mostly in June and July, and fly from evening onwards, being attracted to light after darkness. They can be disturbed from grassland during the day.

The larvae feed on a number of different species of grass, mining the leaves.

Fairly common throughout Britain. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

Occasional in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = C (very scarce resident or rare migrant).
