Short to medium hairy plant often flushed with red and with a strong smell. Flowers bright pink with petals 8 - 14mm; the petals scarcely notched. Fruit usually hairy and ridged. White flowered forms sometimes occur.

Shaded habitats, copses, woods and banks.

May to September.

Annual or biennial.

Common throughout Britain

Very common in Leicestershire and Rutland. In the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire it was found in 543 of the 617 tetrads.
