Size 2.2 to 3 mm.  One of several similar small blackish weevils. There are other similar species which make correct identification to species level difficult and detailed examination is needed.

Unless identified by a recognised expert, photographic evidence is required and the specimen should be examined with a microscope. In the comments box, state the key or ID method used. Particularly associated with thistles.

All year round but mainly found April to October.

Widespread and fairly frequent especially in the southern half of Britain.

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland.
