Length 5 to 7.5 mm. Adults are mainly orange with a black head and black on the top of the thorax. Females are slightly larger than the males.

The larvae have a black head with a yellow collar and the body is greyish green with three, more or less solid, parallel lines running down the back for the length of the body, and below these a series of black spots.

Habitat where Willows and Poplars are present.

May to July

Larva are associated mainly with Willow but occasionally with Aspen.

Fairly common, with most British records coming from England.

Not well recorded but thought to be fairly common in Leicestershire and Rutland.
