Other Eremocoris.  E podagricus is also present in VC55; it has two spines on the front femora

Identification difficulty
ID checklist (your specimen should have all of these features)
  • One large and several small spines on front femora
  • Hind tibial hairs long and more or less equal to tibial width
Recording advice

We recommend that a specimen is examined and the spines on the front femora and the hairs on the hind tibiae are photographed.  The diagnostic features may not be evident in a field photo.  Note habitat and any associated trees.

When to see it

All year round.

UK Status

RDB1 - ref: British Heteroptera checklist 2021, on British Bugs website.  Historically, this species was only known from the Chilterns, associated with Juniper, and was thought to be extinct.  It reappeared in 2010,  under Cypress trees, and was probably imported in nursery stock from the continent.
