A very small mushroom with a convex, pleated cap, reddish-brown to cream.    Gills are widely spaced and pinkish. The stem is slender and very dark from top to base.

small Marasmius species with gill collars or paler tops to stipes may be found in similar habitats

Photograph from top down, in side-view and underneath to show gills; ensure your photo clearly shows the length of the stipe from gills to base.  You must note substrate and habitat.

On dead wood, usually from deciduous hardwood trees.

June to November in Britain.

Widespread in Britain.

Status in Leicestershire and Rutland not known.
