The fruiting body is formed of clearly individual sporangia that are crowded together into a cushion-like blob or mass (a pseudoaethalium) reminiscent of a raspberry.  These are red in colour when young, becoming purplish-brown as they mature.   The spore-mass is pinkish brown.

Infrequently recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland.

The position of Tubifera in the taxonomic hierarchy is unclear. On the NBN, Tubifera ferruginosa is not assigned to a family.  It is listed under Tubiferaceae on Wikipedia, and in Lycogalaceae in Ing, B. (1999).
