Description
A very small beetle with brown elytra often rather paler near the ‘shoulders’. The thorax is usually a rather red brown though the degree may vary.
Identification difficulty
Habitat
Associated with decaying plant material and compost heaps, but often found on flowers.
When to see it
All year, but best between April and November.
UK Status
Widespread and fairly frequent in England and Wales. There seem to be fewer records from Scotland.
VC55 Status
Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were approximately 34 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
