Puccinia distincta is a rust fungus causing galls on Daisies (Bellis perennis, including cultivated varieties); there is no host alternation. Infected leaves and stems have raised yellowed  spots bearing orange aecia; they are often less vigorous compared to normal leaves.  Dark brown telia are sometimes produced later; there is no spermogonia or uredinia stage. 

Puccinia obscura on Bellis.  Redfern and Shirley (2023) descibe this as having copper coloured areas on leaves, and aecia in Sept-Dec. The aecia are on both sides of the leaf.  It is closely related to P lagenophorae/distincta

Daisy - Bellis perennis

This species has only been recorded on wild daisies since 1997, but has increased dramatically since then  (ref. Redfern & Shirley, 2023)

There is some disagreement amongst taxonomists as to whether this is a separate species from Puccinia lagenophorae. It is given as a separate species in Redfern & Shirley's 'British Plant Galls' and on the 'Plant Parasites in Europe' website.  We are following these two sources and treating these two species as separate - but as the NBN treats them as synonyms we cannot display a separate distribution map below.
