Description
Wingspan 20-25 mm. A distinctive species which has a noticeable blackish patch of raised scale-tufts at about one-third distance from the head.

Habitat
Hedgerows and scrubby areas.
When to see it
It and has two generations, flying in June and July and again in September and October.
Life History
The larvae feed internally in the berries of Spindle.
UK Status
It is distributed mainly in southern England but not common. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as local.
VC55 Status
Uncommon with few records from Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = D (rare or rarely recorded)
