Carex divulsa subsp. divulsa forms dense tufts of green leaves and has long, often drooping flowering stems.  It has fairly short bracts and the flowers are well spaced out. 

The County Recorder has asked for a specimen of this plant to be retained for verification

This sedge will tolerate quite dry conditions and may be found in hedge banks, scrub, along woodland borders and paths, on roadsides and in rough, open grassland.

In flower from June to August.

Perennial.

Although fairly frequent in southern England, Wales and East Anglia, it becomes much less common further north.

Uncommon in Leicestershire and Rutland. Prior to the Broughton Astley record of 1st September 2017 it was last recorded from VC55 in 1971.

It was on the 2011 VC55 Rare Plant Register (Jeeves, 2011) but improved recording since then has meant it is found in more sites than previously thought, so it doesn't meet the criteria for the current RPR (Hall and Woodward, 2022)
