7.5-8.5mm Platambus maculatus is a predaceous diving beetle usually with characteristic markings, though darker specimens are less obvious. The pale elytral margins are consistent.

Widespread and quite frequent in Britain.

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were approximately 78 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
