Wingspan18-22 mm. This is rather a creamy brown looking well marked moth with a distinct pale patch running about half the length of the wing.

July and August, when it can be attracted to light.

The larva feeds on mosses growing on walls, especially the moss Tortula muralis and forms a silken tube.

This species is distributed over much of Britain, most frequently in the south. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

Fairly frequent but not common in Leicestershire & Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = B (scarce resident or restricted distribution or regular migrant)
