Quite a small member of the Acleris genus with a wingspan of 13 to 16 mm. Forewing ground colour ochreous-yellow; markings brick-red.

This species prefers open areas such as grassland, downs and heaths.

The adults fly from afternoon onwards, in July and August.

Associated with various herbaceous plants.

The species is fairly common locally throughout the British Isles. In the Butterfly Conservation's Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

Occasional, although possibly under recorded in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = C (very scarce resident or rare migrant).
