Wingspan 15-21 mm. One of many similar species which mimics a bird-dropping when at rest.

Hedgerows, gardens and orchards.

Flying from dusk into the night, between June and August, the adult is easily attracted to light.

The larvae feed on a variety of trees including Hawthorn and Blackthorn.

This is a common species throughout Britain. In the Butterfly Conservation’s Microlepidoptera Report 2011 this species was classified as common.

Quite common in Leicestershire and Rutland. L&R Moth Group status = A (common and resident)
