Low to short spreading, hairy or stickily hairy plant. Stems branched from the base. Leaves alternate, oval, the lower slightly toothed, the upper often with a heart shaped base, short stalked. Flowers yellow, with a deep purple upper lip,10 to 15 mm long, solitary on slender stalks at the base of the leaves, spur curved.

Arable land on calcareous soils.

Flowers July to October.

Annual.

Local in England and Wales north to Nottinghamshire, scarce further north.

Occasional and local in Leicestershire and Rutland. In the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire it was found in 15 of the 617 tetrads.
