Medium to tall plant, forming tufts. Erect angled stems. Leaves alternate, pinnate with 8 to 12 pairs of leaflets. Flowers usually blue 20 to 30 mm in dense terminal cluster.

Damp and rocky habitats, often close to habitation.

May to August.

Perennial - Most records probably relate to casuals and garden escapes that have become established in the wild.

Though not common, the few scattered records show this plant to be widespread in Britain.

It is uncommon as a wild flower in Leicestershire and Rutland. In the 1979 Flora survey of Leicestershire it was found in 3 of the 617 tetrads.
