Description
Wing length 5 to 8.5mm. There are large orange-red markings on the abdomen and the male has modified tarsi on the front and middle legs.
Similar Species
Xylota segnis, but this is usually a larger and more robust species.
Identification difficulty
Habitat
Wet meadows and the margins of ponds and ditches.
When to see it
June to August are the peak months.
