Brooklime Leaf Beetle - Prasocuris junci

Description

Size: 4 to 5 mm. Prasocuris junci is a very dark metallic blue or occasionally dark green beetle.

Water margins where Brooklime (Veronica beccabunga) and Water-speedwells are present.

When to see it

Late March to early September.

Life History

Prasocuris junci grazes on leaves of Brooklime and Water-speedwells, but is also occasionally found on other plants such as Fool's Water-cress.

UK Status

Widespread and fairly frequent in Britain.

VC55 Status

Fairly frequent in Leicestershire and Rutland. There were approximately 28 VC55 records for this species up to March 2015.
